LAKE PLACID SWIMMING HOLES AND BEACHES

The Lake Placid Retreat is just a short walk or drive to several excellent swimming holes with dozens of options further afield. The public beach at Mirror Lake (left-hand photo above) is about a ten minute walk from the house. It is a lifeguarded sand bottom beach that is great for kids. In summer time a dock and float are set up for diving. The Dam at Lake Placid is located just one minute by car from the house. This swimming hole is at the end of a short trail that runs through lovely woods next to a roaring brook. The trail ends at a low dam on Lake Placid lake. This is an excellent place for picnics, swimming and splashing around. Although it's right near town it feels wild and calm. Further afield you can try Whiteface Landing located at the end of Lake Placid Lake's shoreline trail. The trail takes you along the wildest shore of Lake Placid Lake and leaves you at the foot of Whiteface Mountain. There's a dock at the end of the trail that makes for a good picnic spot (see right-hand photo above). Another nice day trip can made from visiting Copperas, Owen, and Winch Ponds. About a fifteen minute drive from Lake Placid Village this is a string of three ponds with easy hikes and good fishing. Copperas is particularly nice with high rocks for summer time diving. For those who don't mind driving half an hour, there are numerous swimming holes along the Ausable and Boquet Rivers that include natural water slides and deep river pools. Come visit us and sample some of the clearest water nature has to offer.
